Members are welcome to set up their own personal gear to observe from the amphitheater of the Ryan Observatory. This opportunity provides members with a secure dark sky location and practice with your astronomy gear. A member from RAS will be on site to verify memberships or to renew if necessary.
Plan to arrive just before Sunset with your astronomy gear (binoculars, cameras, telescopes….). If you are observing past 11:30 PM, campsites are available at Muddy Run Campground for overnight stays There is no overnight camping permitted at observatory or visitor center.
Ted Williams will be on hand at sunset for a laser sky orientation. Bring your binoculars if you would like to simply follow along. This is a good night for beginners to bring their gear and have some guidance of what to observe. Cloudy skies will understandably cancel this activity.
