Cherry Springs State Park PA. ~ Comparing dark skies?

A great launch for my westward trek. And yes, maybe stopping at a favorite site to see how it compairs to the lodge in Wyoming.

We usually see a few more people on a new moon weekend but possible rain forecasts kept folks away. Also, many folks dealing with storm and flood damage in SE PA and NJ. Met up with RAS members Roxanne, and Renee.

A long time astronomy favorite. Arguably one of the darkest spots east of the Mississippi.

Saturday night was clouded out and forecast of rain Sunday didn’t look good. A clearing possibly by 10:00 PM. looked promising.

Renee, Joe and I decided to avoid Sunday rain and went to the movies at The Lake Thrater in Galein for an afternoon movie showing Freeguy. Film was good and Renee loves old theaters and the converted church has always been on my to do list.

I’ve seen this place for years and now I can recommend it.

Unique, a church converted to a theater. Sound and picture just fine!

After the movie and back to Cherry Springs. No disappointment on Sunday night. Joe sees his first real look at Milky Way, and as Renee pointed out, from horizon to horizon. Four glorious hours of hopping around the sky before a cloud sets in. I mean, envelopes us. We get soaked from humidity and end the night in a dew deluge.
